Welcome! It’s great to have you here!
My name is Marie Blom; child of the forest, deeply inspired by the beauty and magic of nature, dedicated to capturing it all through my art.
I've been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember, but my artistic journey has been far from a straight line! Since I first picked up oils at the fearless age of 15, there have been many twists and turns. Here’s how it all started—and how it’s going.
As a kid, I’d spend hours in my room sketching animals, nature, and anything magical. I loved sitting by the window, looking at the trees and moon, dreaming of faraway places.
When I wasn’t drawing, I was outside exploring. Growing up on a small Norwegian island full of forests and surrounded by the sea meant I was always close to nature, and that’s where my love for all things wild and free began.
My parents encouraged my creativity early on, so I started with watercolors and acrylics. At 15, I discovered oil paints and was amazed by how they stayed workable longer. Oils quickly became my favorite medium, and I devoted myself to mastering them.
After graduating, I knew I wanted to paint realistic, beautiful works that celebrated nature.
I was lucky to secure an apprenticeship with an artist in Oslo, where I spent a year studying old masters like Zorn and Caravaggio, learning old oil painting techniques, and preparing materials.
After Oslo, I applied to The Florence Academy of Art in Gothenburg, Sweden. The school’s focus on classical realism, especially from the 19th century, was exactly what I’d been looking for. When I was accepted, it felt like a big step.
I spent three years fully immersed in learning. After graduating, I was offered a year-long teaching position, which was an amazing experience and taught me a lot about teaching, as well as painting.
After I left Sweden, I spent a year back in Norway painting, having exhibits and courses, before my journey led me to a country that will forever have a big place in my heart, Portugal.
During my five years living and working in Portugal, I underwent a big artistic change and spent a couple of years studying the craft of printmaking in the magical, misty mountains of Sintra.
My need for brighter colors grew. I explored topics like the sea and flowers. I also fell in love with the incredible art of Portuguese tiles. The patterns, colors, and shapes found their way into my heart and resonated with my love for Art Nouveau.
In 2020, I returned to my small Norwegian island and all the lovely wild things.
After almost 10 years, of living and studying abroad, coming home offered a much-needed remembrance and rediscovery of my true values and inspirations.
After spending months back walking the woods, I felt my childhood fascination with animals, magic, and the spirit of the earth return full force in my bones. Pairing this inspiration with my love for Art Nouveau, particularly the designs of William Morris, I started experimenting with a new style and expression.
I've been fortunate to work full-time as an artist for the past few years from my studio in Moss, Norway.
My work has been showcased internationally, including exhibitions at the Salmagundi Club in New York and The Mall Galleries in London.
I've had some wonderful collaborations and commissions, including designing book covers for one of Norway's largest publishing houses, Aschehoug.
My aim is to create art that brings the enchanting world of wildlife, design, and forest magic into your space, helping you create a beautiful place that makes you feel connected to the wild world right outside your door.
