BIOGRAPHY

MARIE BLOM b. 1990

Marie Blom embarked on her creative journey amidst the lush landscapes of her Norwegian island home, where nature's beauty profoundly influenced her.

To improve her skills, Marie studied classical oil painting at the Florence Academy of Art in Gothenburg for three years, where she later became an instructor.

Life then brought her to Portugal, and after living in the colorful coastal city of Cascais for several years, she fell in love with azulejos - painted tiles.

Drawing inspiration from these mesmerizing tile patterns and infusing them with the elegance of Art Nouveau, Marie crafts intricate floral designs inspired by the art of Alphonse Mucha and William Morris. Her work is characterized by a recurring motif: the bird, symbolizing timeless wisdom and guidance.

Now based in Moss, Norway, Marie's work has been showcased internationally, including exhibitions at the Salmagundi Club in New York and The Mall Galleries in London.

Her art beautifully intertwines classical and contemporary aesthetics inspired by nature, inviting viewers into her enchanting world of wildlife, symbolism, and forest magic.

ARTIST STATEMENT

‘‘My work is a celebration of life and nature.

My inspiration is the ''Anima Mundi'', - A concept based on a close connection between all living things on Earth. To illustrate this subject in my paintings, I focus on the beauty, symbolism, and cultural importance of nature and wildlife.

By embracing classical and contemporary aesthetics in my work, I intentionally blend my traditional painting style with a graphic artistic expression, helping me create visual contrasts.

Through a selection of vibrant, earthy colors inspired by the many hours I've spent wandering the nearby forests, nature's palette guides my color choices while creating a deep connection to the natural world through symbolism, patterns, and the enchanting world of birds.

The bird represents a timeless and ancient creature, a symbol that transcends borders and cultures, embodying the role of a messenger and guide between realms. Each bird comes with a story and invitation to look within to observe how their message can resonate in one's journey.

To me, the intricate floral designs decorating the background illustrate a deep symbolism. These Art Nouveau-inspired patterns are more than decorations - they represent our human kinship with nature, reminding us that we are an essential part of life's intricate tapestry. ‘‘
