GUIDES

A helpful guide to navigate the world of Color.

I love the language of color. It has the possibility to speak to us and through us in powerful ways. When understood and chose wisely the colors make a painting truly come alive.

But how do you get to know them?

The best place to start is with Color Theory and in this free guide with to-the-point information and illustrations I’m sharing how.

How to choose and understand your materials.

The oil painting craft is old and rich. The pigments and mediums are many and the possibilities are endless.

As a seasoned painter I enjoy this complexity, but as a new student I know it can seem overwhelming. This guide highlights the basics and presents a carefully chosen selection of materials to simplify any new students understanding of oil paint.

How to see to see values and form.

Values eaquels light. Light eaguels form.

To understand how to see, use and communicate values in a painting is an art in itself. To ease into this skill a lot of classically trained artist spend a fair bit of time practicing the much praised technique, Grisaille.

This guide explains why and how to paint Grisaille with special step-by-step illustrations and exercises to implement the information.
